About Vasant Coriander Cumin Powder (Dhana Jeeru Powder)
Vasant Coriander Cumin Powder is the blend that sits in the middle of almost every Gujarati masala dabba. Known at home as Dhana Jeeru powder, it combines two of the most used Indian spices in one spoon, so you do not have to reach for coriander powder and cumin powder separately each time you cook.
Vasant starts with fresh coriander seeds and cumin seeds, dry roasts them and then grinds them fine. The roasting brings out a warm, earthy and slightly nutty aroma, while the coriander keeps the flavour mellow. It adds depth without heat, which is why it is used so freely in daily food.
A teaspoon is enough for most sabzis, dals and curries. It is a staple in Gujarati shaak like sev tameta, turiya and ringan bateta, in Punjabi rajma and chole, and in Maharashtrian usal, where Marathi cooks may call it dhaney jire powder. North Indian homes use Dhaniya Jeera powder in aloo gobi and matar, and Kannada speakers know it as Dhania Jira Gunda. It is also good in kebab mixes, bharwa sabzi stuffing and a pinch over curd.
Available in 100g, 200g, 500g and 1kg packs. Masala365 is an authorised Vasant Masala distributor in Kandivali West, Mumbai, delivering across Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Thane. For orders from elsewhere in India, send us a WhatsApp inquiry.
