About Vasant Perfect Chilli Powder (Lal Mirch Powder)
Vasant Perfect Chilli Powder is the everyday red chilli powder for cooks who want real heat in their food. It is made from chillies sourced from Guntur in Andhra Pradesh, a region famous for spicy chillies, and gives dishes a bright red colour with a medium to high spice level.
This is the lal mirch powder that goes into nearly every Indian meal: dal tadka, aloo sabzi, chicken and mutton curry, sev tameta, misal, kolhapuri dishes and chutneys. Gujarati kitchens ask for marchu powder, Hindi speakers say mirchi powder or lal mirch pisi hoi, and in the south it is milagai thool, mulaku podi or menasina pudi. Vasant lists cottonseed oil as part of the product along with the chillies.
Start with a teaspoon in sabzi, curry or dal and adjust from there, as Guntur chilli is noticeably hotter than Kashmiri types. For a dish that needs both colour and heat, many cooks mix this powder with a milder Kashmiri chilli powder. It is also a good base for homemade spice mixes like chutney podi, kanda lasun masala and chaat masala.
Available in 100g, 200g, 500g and 1kg packs. Masala365 is an authorised Vasant Masala distributor in Kandivali West, Mumbai, and delivers across Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Thane. Customers in other parts of India can order through a WhatsApp inquiry.
