About Vasant Cumin Powder (Jeera Powder)
Vasant Natural Cumin Powder, better known as jeera powder, is made from cumin seeds sourced from Unjha, the Gujarat town that is one of the biggest cumin trading centres in the world. The seeds are dry roasted and then ground, which gives the powder a toasty, nutty aroma the moment you open the pack.
Cumin comes from the Cuminum cyminum plant, and it is hard to find an Indian kitchen that does not keep it within reach. The powder has an earthy, warm taste with a light bitterness that rounds off other spices. Even a small amount changes the flavour of a dish or a drink, so a little goes a long way.
Stir a pinch into dahi, raita or chaas, or sprinkle it over fruit chaat, bhel and aloo tikki. It adds depth to rajma, chole, dal makhani and dry sabzis like aloo jeera and bhindi. Jeera powder is also used in jaljeera, chutneys and dry rubs for paneer or vegetables. Adding it near the end of cooking keeps more of its roasted smell. Vasant packs it in a 100g size, which is easy to finish while the powder is still fresh.
Masala365 delivers Vasant cumin powder across Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Thane from our base in Kandivali West, where we work as an authorised Vasant Masala distributor. Orders from the rest of India are taken on WhatsApp inquiry.
