About Vasant Pipramul Powder (Ganthoda Powder)

Vasant Natural Pipramul Powder is ground from pipramul, a knobbly root that looks a little like ginger. In Gujarat most people know it as ganthoda, and it is also sold as peepramul or piplamul powder. It is a speciality item that many families buy mainly in winter.

The taste is mild at first, with a nutty, faintly bitter finish and a gentle warmth. Vasant makes the powder from fresh material and processes it in well maintained facilities, cleaning it so the powder is free from dust, stones and other bits. That matters with a root spice, since you want a smooth powder that mixes evenly into sweets.

Its best known use is in adadiya pak, the Gujarati winter sweet made with urad dal flour, ghee, jaggery or sugar and a mix of spices. Ganthoda powder is also added to other winter pak and laddoo recipes, and some families stir a little into their tea. Because the flavour is distinct, measure carefully and follow your family recipe. Many Gujarati families in Mumbai buy it before Uttarayan or the first cold weeks of the year, when pak making begins at home.

Vasant Pipramul Powder comes in 50g and 100g packs. Masala365, an authorised Vasant Masala distributor in Kandivali West, delivers it across Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Thane. Customers outside these areas can place an order through a WhatsApp inquiry.

How to use

  • Add to adadiya pak along with the other winter spices
  • Mix a measured amount into winter laddoo and pak recipes
  • Stir a small pinch into tea if your family recipe calls for it
  • Sift with flour so it spreads evenly through sweets
